Estate Tours - THE BIG 5 - Rhino
The BIG Five are the kings of Africa. They are supreme. Come face to face with lions, leopards, rhino, elephants and buffalo and experience why they are called 'The Big Five!' Lion / Leopard / Elephant / Rhino / Buffalo
The Rhino
The rhino appear to be slow and dimwitted animals, but they are surprisingly agile and swift footed. Their eyesight is poor and will treat anything that does not move with a sense of caution.

Rhino have been among the most endangered species on account of notions that their horns, which are formed of compacted hair, can serve as aphrodisiacs. Unfortunately this has created a market for poaching, even as people's love for finely carved ivory products has created a market for elephant tusks.
Intense conservation efforts have led to their conservation status improving, but as long as such markets exist, killing them for their horns will remain a source of income and a contentious issue on the world's conservation agenda.

The terms 'white' and 'black' rhino are misleading, since they cannot really be distinguished by colour. The white rhino has a wide, flattened or square lip by means of which it grazes oft the shod grass. while the black rhino is a browser, whose pointed, elongated mouth enables it to feed on leafy branches. The black rhino is a bit smaller, and more temperamental and easily provoked.

Giraffes are not considered to be one of the Big 5, but they are generally found in the same territories and habitat. They are tall and majestic. They can run at a fair speed on long elegant legs. Lions will sometimes try to take the calves from the mother, but they are very wary of the kick of a giraffe that could quite easily kill them.
