 The leopard is the
loner of the African wild. Piercing eyes will stare through your soul. They are watchful, silent and awsomely elegant.

The elusive leopard is a nocturnal animal (like the lion) who prefers to hunt at night.
It hides its prey in trees to keep them safe from other predators. If you want to see leopards it is definitely
preferable to go with a local guide as leopards prefer riverine areas and craggy hills - making it difficult to
spot. Leopards are sometimes confused with cheetahs. Their bodies are more compact than those of cheetahs, their
heads are quite large. There coat has a distinctive circularly arranged rosette pattern along their sides and back.
The leopard's claws are fully retractable, unlike the cheetah's front claws that are more like those of a dog. The cheetah does not count among the 'Big Five', but it is known as the fastest animal on four legs, reaching speeds of up to 112 km/h in chasing its prey. It has characteristic tear marks down its cheeks. |
